ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC
June 27, 2009
by Roger de Socarras
Our summer picnic was hosted by Jim and Mae Laird in Darlington, Maryland. The weather
was perfect with about sixty members and guests attending. Quite a few members drove their
collector cars to the picnic. Our hosts provided everything you would want and more -- fried
chicken, burgers, hot dogs, fresh cut french fried potatoes, rolls, drinks and many other items.
Everyone attending brought a dish to share. After enjoying the great food and catching up on
all the news from fellow members, a short business meeting was called to order.
Secretary Mary Grace Smith read the minutes from the previous meeting, and Alice
Oberender gave the Treasurer's report. John and Doris Stone gave a report on the 2009
Chrome Glidden Tour. We had 97 cars registered for the tour. From all reports, it was a
great success. Per Chris de Socarras' statistics, we had 27 Mid-Atlantic Region families on
the tour, for a total of 54 members. Doris announced that some tote bags were left over and
for sale, and she could still order shirts. Howard and Chris King gave a brief report on the
2009 Fall Tour to be held in Maryland. Director Roger de Socarras announced the forming of
a nomination committee to assemble a slate of officers for the fall election. He also asked for
volunteers to host the 2010 Spring and Fall tours and picnic.
As our Region covers a large area and some of our members had a long distance to travel, by
4:00 p.m. some of us left for home. We thank the Lairds and family for their hospitality and
generosity for hosting the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Region picnic.
